Down the Track

What I did:
Crit this week was very helpful. I started 3 different drawings and fined two of them. I have been projected my images in room 2006 and have been meeting with Cynthia to help me get my specs solid. Experiencing the work in the space has been so circuital in this process. I am starting to think a lot about the space between the projectors where the viewer stand and that has changed the kind of imagery I am using. I had to scrap a lot of what I have already done because I didn't feel that it was relevant anymore.

What I accomplished/ discovered/ encountered:
During crit I realized the my project is extremely experienced based and that it was difficult to simulate that experience in the crit space. When looking at the images I had there was still a disconnect from each drawing because I was trying to categorize my drawings from what is inside the body and what is the outside surface. My thoughts was of differences in scale some images being human scale and others much larger. I believe I was complicating myself then. The piece is titled "In the Skin" I dont need to catagorize my imagery... I need to be thinking about the communication between the parallel projectors and the space between them. It is all about being "inside", "immersed". When thinking about that concept, I imagine the peice to cover the entire wall most of the time and having loops that seem more infinite and travel from one side to the other.

What is next:
Continue drawing. Continue working on different transitions. Check out room 2006 every week until the show to start experiencing my work in the space.

A Few More Strides

What I did:
This week I have been experimenting with transitions between drawings and the evolution of each drawing. I have found new ways to evoke excessiveness by thinking about growth, elements that multiply, and traveling through a drawing. I have been thinking a lot about the space that which my piece will be presented in. Althought I have not completely guaranteed my spot in room 2006, I believe it will be possible. I have been in contact with several professors who have classes in there to know when they are using the room. The great thing about that space is that there is already HD projectors in the spots that I want them to be. There is no take down and minimal set up required. I have that room reserved for this evening and will be starting to project my pieces so I can start experiencing the work in the space at scale. I have started three new drawings sense last week that I am excited to start projecting.

What I accomplished/ discovered/ encountered:
All of my drawing up until now have had this pulsating effect because of its growth and then its decline. All the moments seemed to be fairly similar. Now I have been working on loops that do not fade in and out, but that multiplies, that seems infinite and never ending. My plan is to project on two walls that are parallel to each other. The person will stand in the middle of the parallel walls. On one wall the imagery will be human scale. The drawings will make up much of the surface skin and create some definition in the form of the figure. It may start with the neck, then makes it way to the shoulder, then to the back, then hip, then caf, or hands. Transitions between each still needs to be determined. Then on the other wall imagery will be displayed in large scale, covering the whole wall. This side will present the inside workings of the body. The imagery is representational, there is no specific parts inside that are recognizable, yet they have this bodly wonderland feeling. The inner body imagry will depend on the particular body part that appears on the parallel wall. I hope to create some communication between both sides.

What is next:
Continue drawing. Continue working on different transitions. Check out room 2006 every week until the show to start experiencing my work in the space.

still going strong

What I did:
This week I started a drawing that is of the back. From the amount I accomplished in the drawing I was able to experiment with transitions between each frame. Some transition like a cut from frame to frame without delay creating a fast and erratic movement and other transitions are more smooth by adding a morphing technique that creates frames between two frame. I messed around with transitioning a lot and have found effective ways to move forward this week.

What I accomplished/ discovered/ encountered:
I have been thinking a lot about my transitions and my pacing within this project. This includes the transitions frame by frame, but also the transitions between the content of the drawing and how to viewer is going to translate this experience. After my discussion with Jim, I gained a stronger grasp on possible directions for my drawings and added important elements to my thoughts. This project is about living within a body. It is about the experience of having a body from the inside out and the outside in. These experiences can as some may a person feel uneasy and nerve-racking as our body's are fragile and assessable to illness, even the end of live its-self. The way to communicate these feels weighs heavily on the transitions between the drawings. An effective way of doing this is thinking about the experience of the viewer. First the viewer is going to want to piece the drawing together-- realizing it is a body, then where does this take the viewer, to the inside of the body-- can become more abstract. Morphing pieces of one drawing to another without it dissolving completely can add some communication from content to content.

What is next:
Continue drawing. Working on my rhythm, passing, transition, layering. Start experiencing the work on the projectors in a dark space in order to figure out the best way to present the work. See if I can rent out room 2006 for my IP space.
